Natural-Climatic Features
If you arrive in Evpatoria in winter, you will be greeted with warm, often above-freezing days. The average air temperature is +11.6 Celsius. The first frost may not be until the end of November. Sometimes nature can surprise you. For instance, in 1946 the winter came unusually early: October 25 had the first frost; while in 1949 it was late: the first frost was not until December 30.
Very little snow falls here and some winters can be completely snowless. The sea moderates the climate. In winter it returns heat that had accumulated in summer, increasing the warm air temperature to +10...+11С. The sun may be so strong that people can take solar baths not only in winter solariums and on open verandahs, but also right on the sea shore. Fairly often it’s possible to see daredevils bathing in the sea. When the sky is cloudless, solar heating can be so strong that even at temperatures below freezing, snow begins to melt. Usually the time period when negative temperatures have really set in is during the first twenty days in January and it might last until March.
Warm and without drastic temperature swings, springtime approaches very early here, sometimes even in February it is possible to see the Judas tree saplings, engulfed in bright rose blossoms. The greenery is really going crazy in April. Air and sea temperatures quickly increase. At the end of May and even earlier, many vacationers open the bathing season, which lasts five months.
Summer is very warm with severe heat being infrequent. Temperatures remain between +20...+28 Celsius, only once in a while does the thermometer leap to the +30 Celsius mark. On particularly hot days it is possible to find relief at the sea or in the shade of the many parks and gardens. At the sea in summer, light pleasing winds blow: breezes refresh and clean the air. In daytime the breezes bring coolness and moisten the air and at night, they are scented by steepe grass and bring warmth to this time of day.
But the best relaxation of all is Evpatoria in autumn, the so-called velvet season, when the numbers of people staying at the resort decreases. This is the best time for relaxation. Evpatoria’s autumn is infinitely wonderful. The air is clean and clear. The days are bright and serene with moderate temperatures. Roses, dahlias, asters and numbers of other plants bloom. The parks are startling with their amazing variety of colors - from green to red and violet. Counters are crammed with fruits and vegetables and grapes. The streets and parks are less crowded and the beaches become wide open. The sea, as earlier, is warm, gentle and inviting.
Only at the end of October to the beginning of November is the breath of deep autumn felt. Clouds and winds increase and the first frost appears.
